Chinese Chives with Seafood

You never know until you try. Seriously, I never thought of stir-frying chinese chive leaves. Because of their stronger smell and 'oniony' flavor, I don't think to cook the leaves would be a good idea. What I normally do is I would throw in a few short lengths of chive leaves when I cook fresh bean sprouts to complete the taste. Yeah, they make a perfect partner in any stir-fry and dumpling. I stumbled upon this easy stir-fry recipe using chive leaves in a quick search of the internet and gave it a try. It made the difference and I quite liked it!

Note: The recipe is copied from Tan Wiratchada's blog.

Ingredients:

2 g shrimps
2-3 squids, cut
1 g Chinese chive flowers, cut
1 clove garlic, chopped
1 ½ tbsp fish sauce
1 tbsp oyster sauce

Preparation:

1. Chop garlic. Cut the Chinese chive flowers into 1 ½ inch long. Peel and devain shrimp. For a presentation, you can use whole shrimp (with head) and peel.
2. Heat a wok or a pan on high heat. Add a tablespoon of oil and chopped garlic and stir.
3. Add shrimp and squids when the garlic starts to brown. Stir to get the shrimp and squid somewhat cooked. The shrimp shoud start to get pinky but not all pink or cooked.
4. Add the chive flowers and stir to cook them.
5. Add oyster sauce and fish sauce. The flowers shouldn't take long to cook. You want the flowers to just cook, but not overcook and still retain their crunchiness.
6. When the color turns bright green, it indicates that they are cooked.
7. Turn off the heat and pour on a plate immediately. Serve with hot steamed rice.

Nasi Lemak Hijau

I am always looking for new recipes to try out and I would be happy to write a review on it, and share it with my blogger friends. Wokey, today I tried nasi lemak hijau for the first time using CMG's recipe and it turned out ok. The texture of the rice was very nice but the taste was quite 'strong' for nasi lemak. A little too heavy for my taste! I'd personally prefer nasi lemak biasa over NLH because I think it goes well with the sambal tumis. This nasi lemak hijau, if I were to make it again, I would pair it with something like dalca & ayam goreng berempah (or maybe gulai/kerutuk ayam?) for better taste. However, if you would like nasi lemak that tastes a lil different from the usual, then this NLH is something you should be trying, babe!

Note: This NLH recipe is by CMG (Che Mat Gebu) but recipe is copied from Kak Jun's blog. Thanks CMG and Kak Jun :)

Bahan2:

4 cawan beras Basmathi, cuci dan rendam 20 minit. toskan

1 biji kelapa diparut

10 helai daun pandan, dikerat2 kecil*1 cawan air*(*dikisar halus)

2 batang serai, dititik

1 helai daun pandan, disimpul

1 inci halia, diketuk

3 ulas bawang putih, diketuk

5 biji bawang merah kecil, dihiris halus

1 batang kayu manis*

1 kuntum bunga lawang*

5 kuntum bunga cengkih*

3 biji buah pelaga*(*rempah tumis)

1 camca teh serbuk lada hitam

Cara2:

Ketepikan.
2. Panaskan sedikit minyak dalam kuali. Tumis rempah tumis, bawang kecil hiris, bawang putih ketuk, halia titik dan serai titik tadi hingga harum. Tuang santan dan masukkan daun pandan yg disimpul.
Jangan terlebih dibalikkan, nanti nasi patah2.
4. Boleh dihidangkan bersama bahan2 sampingan seperti sambal tumis, ikan bilis goreng, telur dadar, dll.

Air Cendol

When you just came in from the sun, nothing can refresh you better than air cendol. It is easy to make and so refreshing. love it! Cheersss!
Air cendol is served in a cold mixture of cendol, coconut milk & gula melaka (brown syrup). Although it's a nice drink, it's not good to regularly drink air cendol for health benefits. Consuming too much santan/coconut milk is bad ;) errr.. am i writing like a teacher here? oh gosh! :D
